RE: The Price Is Right

Looks like a FBP momentum That is north of 6 figures easy. Not sure about the TV I pull mine with a 3500 chevy. I think you're right. I didn't get a good photo of the front, but I think I saw Momentum on it and it looks a lot like this one on RV Trader. This one is priced around $150K. I love Grand Design, but I wanted to go cheap so I went with Jayco. The quality is very cheap. New 2023 Momentum Fifth Wheel

RE: The Price Is Right

The rig is impressive. I'd never get it in 98% of the campgrounds we like to stay at. There is room on the truck frame for a side mounted car, that is probably the next step. I thought that was a lot of space on the truck frame. How will it get up and down? I notice your travel map in your signature. I used to have one but then it stopped working. Are they working again? It looks like you haven't been to Alabama or Louisiana. I'm in Alabama today and in about 5 days I will be in Louisiana.

The Price Is Right

This afternoon a camper pulled into the spot next to mine in a rather average campground. But the rig was far from average. It was a massive looks new fifth wheeler pulled by a shiny looks new semi-trailer truck. I'm guessing the fellow that owns it is loaded. His wife looked like she was dressed nicely and carrying an expensive bag. How much would a trailer like this cost new and how much for the truck? I'm not looking to buy one; I'm just curious and I won't be so bold as to ask him. (photos of each below) https://i.imgur.com/u0zMLgPl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/C7GoIErl.jpg

RE: Turning With A Long Bumper Pull Trailer

Pull out as far as you can but with a 38ft trailer, your front wheels will be in the far side ditch before you can start the turn if you wait for the trailer axles to reach the road. That's for sure. We made the trip out of the park today and it was not too difficult. I stopped several times to get a look at how much space I had and I always had a lot of clearance. I try to plan my trips from park to park so that I don't have any tight right turns. Some people like to get off the highways, but I would rather stay on the big highways and have easier turns. I pulled into a nice campground, but it was more wooded and my last couple of turns were tight, but I stopped and checked when I needed and it went pretty well. As for my test of how the trailer tracks the truck, it doesn't track as close as I had hoped. On my right turn test out of my campground space it was probably a couple of feet inside the truck track. I'll just have to stay left and swing out as much as I can when I have a tight turn like when I leave this space in 2 days.

RE: Turning With A Long Bumper Pull Trailer

I think you are overthinking this. You have already have towed the trailer with the truck so you have that experience. I think you will find you are worried about nothing. On any right turn start as far to the left that you can, pull out until your trailer wheels are about even with the road and as you start your turn watch your trailer wheels in your right convex mirror as they start to turn. Several people have said "pull out until your trailer wheels are about even with the road" The trailer wheels are about 30 feet behind the end of my truck. There's no way I can wait that long to start turning my truck on my park road or on the highway I'm entering. I watched a similar trailer leave yesterday and he didn't wait nearly that long. I'm going to test it on the exit from campsite to be sure.

RE: Turning With A Long Bumper Pull Trailer

I would say just hook it up and go. You can practice at home. But it will always be different when you are actually on site. It's normal to be nervous. But it will work out in the end. Thanks. I feel better about it now because I caught a break. A neighbor pulled out today on the same route. His rig was about the same size. He swung the corners with no problem. He went into the center/turn lane on the street, but he cleared the corner with room to spare.

RE: Turning With A Long Bumper Pull Trailer

Is there anyone experienced towing in the park? As mentioned, without seeing it, not much we can provide. Someone there could spot you as you go out directing you and watching that you don' get in trouble. Worst case, they could drive it out onto the road and then let you take over. Thanks for the tips from everybody. I'm going to stay left as much as is safe and swing out into the street as far as is safe, but I have one more idea. Where I am located in the park I have to make 3 right turns. The last right turn is to get onto the public street. The first right turn is leaving my spot. The park street gets almost no traffic and there's an alternate route 100 feet away so I can block it for 10 or 20 minutes with no problem. If you can't take the trailer to the parking lot for practice, bring the parking lot to the trailer. Below is a photo of my plan. I'm going to lay a garden hose on the side to represent the edge of the street. I marked the park road with blue. I'm going to swing out to the grass on the other side because it's level and then turn right. Then I'm going to stop a few times to see how the trailer is tracking and if its wheels clear the corner. I will also check the swing of the rear of the trailer. I've read that a bumper pull will track the truck's wheels pretty well, better than a fifth wheel trailer. What I learn in that practice will help guide me when I pull out onto the real street in traffic. Next week I will update this post with my findings from this test. https://i.imgur.com/kNCKGuxl.jpg

RE: Turning With A Long Bumper Pull Trailer

Drive out until the tires of your trailer are even with the edge of the road, then turn the direction you need to go. You might be able to start turning a little before they are at the edge depending on how much room from the tires to the edge of the road, so if you stay to the left of the drive, you have more room to start your turn earlier. You might need to have someone stop traffic or just wait for a large enough gap so you can use both lanes of the road. Thanks. I'll move as far to the left as I can before I start my turn. I think there's enough room because I've seen at least 2 other long trailers pull out that way without even slowing down much like they weren't worried about it at all. I'll take it slow and keep checking my mirrors.

Turning With A Long Bumper Pull Trailer

I have a 38 foot bumper pull trailer and I will be pulling out of my summer park in 2 days. I hope some of the experienced pros here can give me some guidance. I've taken 3 short trips in the new truck (F-250 long bed, full cab, a long truck) and trailer, but it's been 6 months now and that's all the experience I had. When I came into this park I had a left turn off a divided road so that was pretty easy. This time I need to take a right turn onto the same divided road. It's only 1 lane each side with a center lane for turning. I've got a little cheat room on the right side of the exit from the park, but only about 2 or 3 feet. If I took a left turn I'd have to go 10 or 20 minutes out of my way, plus it's a tighter road going left. Can you guide me on how far out into the street I have to get before I start turning the wheel of the truck? I can't go to a parking lot to practice so I have to give this my best shot. I suppose if I have other right turns the same will apply, but I'm trying to avoid them except out in the country when I get to the next park.

RE: Dump Tank Extension Needed

Cicky Nick Thanks. That could work. It's a little pricey, but I can afford it. At least I have an idea what to search for. I wasn't looking for a "boat hook".

Dump Tank Extension Needed

My travel trailer has a gray tank dump handle that is under a slideout so I can't reach the handle unless I crawl under the trailer. Is there a pole for sale that can grab that handle so I can reach under the slideout and open the tank? You would think Jayco would have come up with a better design. I think they should change the names of Jayco trailers to Thor now so that everyone knows the quality they are getting. I have a drain fly infestation and they say leaving my gray tank open may be the cause. Edit: I've seen replacement rods that are longer, but I don't want a permanent solution like that. I want a handle about 3 or 4 feet long that can grab the original handle. Maybe I'll have to make one, but attaching the grabber to the pole may be tricky unless they happen to have matching threads.

RE: Why Does My A/C Have These Slats?

Those slats when closed off, will direct cold air thru the other vents in ceiling. When you want a quick cool down.open them and more air will flow out. I gave it a try today when the house got warm and it does dump cold air into the room like a hurricane. Thanks.

Does Anyone Recognize This Fire TV App?

We have the Fire TV stick and a friend installed this app on it but we can't contact him to find the name of this app. It allows us to watch live TV channels around the country, among other channels. It may be pirated, but I don't know anything about it. Does anyone recognize this app or do you know of a similar app? https://i.imgur.com/lVk4jpAl.jpg

Why Does My A/C Have These Slats?

I have a 6 month old Jayco Jay Flight trailer. I looked at the user manual and it has pitiful little information about the air conditioner. I finally figured out how to clean the filter. I see this lever (circled in red) that opens a set of slats on the unit. Can someone please explain what these are for and when I should have them open or closed? They have always been closed since I picked it up from the dealer but they are open in this photo. https://i.imgur.com/tCyY8V7l.jpg

RE: Can I Close My Low Point Drain?

On some models/brands certain configurations allow the low point drain to act as a siphon, which could certainly be annoying. Sounds like yours was just draining, like it supposed to. The overflow will not have a valve unless you add one, like some have done with the siphoning effect. But you can cause the tank to explode if you don't open the valve when filling the tank. Not a good thing, and why some people are hesitant to add the valve. Thanks. That makes sense to me. The water tank is still showing full an hour or 2 later and no water is draining below. I think it was just an overflow spout and I don't want to try to attach a shut off valve.

Can I Close My Low Point Drain?

I have a Jayco Jay Flight. I filled the fresh water tank, but now water is draining out from the Low Point Drain under the trailer. Is there a way to close that drain or is it supposed to remain open? Edit: Never mind. It stopped draining water and the Fresh tank reads full. I guess it's just an overflow for when it gets too full.

RE: Getting Warranty Service While Living In Your RV

We have been FT 9 years and ours was also Grand Design. I a tually avoid dealers if at all possible because they usually cannot get you in. Depending on the issue, a tractor/trailer repair can fix most suspension issues. Also had one redo some hydraulic hoses that leaked. Much easier than getting into a dealer. We had once where the dealer actually had Rv space with water/electric. They’d pull the rig over to work on during the day, then we’d sleep in it at night. Also had GD pay for mobile techs and overnighted parts to us for the tech to install. Of course we are now long out of warranty, but even some non-dealer repair places have had water/electric on site where we let them work on it during the day, and we still slept in it at night. On little stuff, it is often easier to fix it yourself if you are capable. Let them send you the parts. Another option is to attend a rally. Most companies will have repair folks on site and fix relatively minor things for you in warranty or not. That's an interesting idea. Maybe I can find a shop that has water/electric to stay at night.

RE: Getting Warranty Service While Living In Your RV

It varies from dealer to dealer. The dealer we purchased both of our full-time fifth wheels from would make an appointment and get us in and out the same day for minor stuff - even a washer/dryer installation. When we needed warranty work done and weren't in our dealer's area, Grand Design stepped up to the plate and paid for a mobile tech. Rob Sweet. I guess that's why Grand Design was a lot more expensive. I may regret going cheap. (but I don't regret it yet)

Getting Warranty Service While Living In Your RV

What is the typical process for getting warranty service, or non-warranty service, while living in your RV full time? I have a 2 year warranty on my Jayco trailer and I am at almost 6 months. There are a lot of small items and some bigger items that need service and I think they are covered by warranty. I called the local Camping World and I spoke to someone in service. When I told them I am living in my trailer they said that if I come in early some day, about 9 AM, they will review all my items that day and I can take the trailer home in the afternoon. They will then contact Jayco and get approval and order parts. Then when the parts are ready they will contact me and I will come back in for an appointment. How long it takes then depends on what needs to be done. I might have to get a hotel room for a night or more, or maybe not. Do a lot of dealers work like that? What can I expect based on your real world experience?
